Volcano

Vulcano, is the closest island to northern Sicily, and is located 14 miles away from Milazzo. Its name comes from the Roman god and is formed of three dead volcanoes and the active Grande Fossa. Well known is the natural mud pond and the fumaroles in the sea. Tourists come not only to enjoy the feeling of a relaxing immersion in the pond, but also for a wonderful cure for skin deseases and rheumatism. Place of interest is the Black Sand Beach formed of black lava sand from where you can admire the most beautiful sunsets behind the Faraglioni of Vulcano and Lipari.

The center of the island, about 400mt. high and 6 km. from the port is called Vulcano Piano and is considered the biggest caldera of the eolian islands. Here you can visit Capo Grillo, amazing panoramic point from where you can see at once the whole archipelago.

In about 10 min. from Piano you arrive in Gelso, the southern and most wild side of the island. Here you will find idyllic small black sand beaches, the tiny fisher harbor and two family trattorias where you can enjoy the typical eolian kitchen.
Last but not least Vulcanello, the youngest earth of southen Europe, 183 b.Ch. and since the 16th century connected to the main island Vulcano. The last eruption of Vulcanello has formed a lava flow known as Valle dei mostri ( monster valley ) with its typical rocks reminding us of fantastic creatures.

Climbing on the Gran Cratere is also an experience you can’t miss. You will find yourself in front of a unique crater considered today heritage of UNESCO. Welcome to Vulcano! N.H.
